After almost 30 years in the post, Alasdair Brodie has retired from his role as Pig Specialist at Norvite Animal Nutrition Company Limited. Originally from a farming family in Cuminestown, Alasdair initially spent 5 years working for a Yorkshire-based feed company before joining Norvite as Pig Specialist in December 1993.
Over the years, Alasdair has witnessed huge structural changes through many cycles of the pig industry. Throughout this time he built a substantial business for Norvite in the pig sector with his focus on industry-leading nutrition and first class customer service.
A memorable evening was enjoyed by almost 40 customers and colleagues at Meldrum House on 2nd August to mark the occasion of Alasdair’s retirement. After splendid food and wine there were several planned and unplanned speeches to round off a special night, with many heartfelt tributes paid. Alasdair was presented with a huge bronze pig from his pig farming customers as a token of their esteem.
Norvite’s Managing Director, Edward Smith, commended Alasdair and his contribution to the business by saying “Alasdair has a unique ability to connect with people. He has been a joy to have in the business because of his infectious enthusiasm and good humour but he has also completely imbued our core value of service excellence. For this and for the business he brought to the company he will be sorely missed by us all.”
Later in August many Norvite staff got together with Alasdair and his family for a celebratory meal in Turriff. A very convivial evening was followed by the presentation of a commemorative photograph from the whole company, typifying Alasdair’s warm, local approach to business, together with an engraved stick and tickets for a trip to Morocco later in the year.
Whilst he leaves the agricultural sector, Alasdair is not completely hanging up his boots and can now be found hosting tours and talks for visitors to Scotland and the Isles.
